Is it Spring Yet?

When you live in Wisconsin and the calendar turns to spring, that typically only means a wide array of crazy weather.
Some days are cold, some days are warm, and some days are blustery, rainy, foggy, and perhaps even snowy!!
In the classroom we have been enjoying learning about all the elements of these different types of weather.
We read a variety of fiction and nonfiction books.
A few of our favorites...
The children used their imaginations to create
their own weather using these loose parts.
These story stones were fun as the children made
up different tales about the weather.
We created some weather sensory bottles which
were just fun to shake and watch as the
weather inside the bottle would swirl around.
Given a tray of a variety of objects, the children made predictions  to decide which items they thought they could move with wind.
Experimenting with wind not only taught us about which things were heavy and light, but we sure got in a lot of giggles too.
The kiddos also made beautiful wind socks.
They were fascinated after adding the ribbons to see how the wind made them move when they ran with the windsocks.
This unit came to an end with the children creating
beautiful easel paintings of the weather of their choosing.
It was fun to label the weather.
We learned many vocabulary words that can be used to describe similar types of weather... windy/blustery; misty/drizzly...

Watch for a bulletin board display next week:)
