Project CLEAN-UP

Friday morning we made a date with our big buddies and went for a brisk walk around the neighborhood near school to pick up litter. We were equipped with plastic gloves and bags to get the job done.
It is our duty to care for God's Earth.
While we were waiting, we tried to catch the wind in our empty bags. So fun!!

 And we're off...

 Time for a rest!!
Picking up litter elicited many giggles and smiles!!

What a good feeling it is to know we just helped the Earth be a better place.
Thank you, God for this beautiful Earth!!

Art for Youth

Today, the children participated in their last Art for Youth session with our two wonderful mommy volunteers. Thank you for a fun year!!
First, we read a book and talked about what it means to be an artist and some of the characteristics artists have.
Artists use their imaginations and enjoy trying new techniques which is what we did today. First, the children placed a few strips of painters tape onto their paper.

Next, they painted a watercolor wash across the entire sheet.

When the paint was dry, we removed the tape.
Ooooo, so cool!!

Week of the Young Child - Artsy Thursday

Every day in prekindergarten is an artsy day, but today we managed to bring out a few special things to celebrate the joy and learning children experience when engaged in creative art making.
Children develop creativity, social skills and fine motor skills with open-ended art projects where they can make choices, use their imaginations, and create with their hands.
We always paint at the easel, but today on Artsy Thursday we used newspaper as our paper. So fun!!

These little artists thought it would be fun to flick the paint brush!!
Cool technique!!
Glitter will always elicit giggles and smiles and make things sparkle and shine.

Then there are feathers. They are so tricky because movement makes them float around the room. So silly!!
These little guys felt like making sculptures and informed all of us that this was also art. Just to be sure their constructions looked a little different than usual, they added a few unique items they found around the room:) So creative!! These sculptures were taller than the boys and they needed to stand on chairs to show us how tall they were!!

The life of an artist can sure be a messy one!!
