Go Bobcats!

As if our Halloween celebration was not quite enough fun for one day, we attended our first pep rally this afternoon. Both the 8th-grade girls and boys volleyball teams have been invited to the Seton tournament.
We heard LOTS of cheering. Saw Robby the bobcat, and met the volleyball teams!!
 Go Bobcats, Go!!

Good luck girls and boys!

Happy Halloween

BOO!
What a fun day we had! All your little goblins should sleep well tonight!
Our day began with everyone drawing a prediction of what they thought our class pumpkin would look like!! Here is the final result!
We had a great time rotating through party centers this morning.
We wrapped silly mummies...

Played Halloween bingo...

Hunted for spooky things in our 'I Spy' bags...

Illustrated the poem, Five Little Pumpkins...

Spun a spider web with marbles and played with creepy spiders in the sensory table...

Enjoyed painting a good ol' fashion jack-o-lantern...

AND... enjoyed a wonderful party feast! Creative mommies! Thank you to all parents who donated to our first party!! We LOVED everything!

The BEST part of the day was being with friends:)

This afternoon we made some rattling bones skeletons. So cute, I think we will hang them in the hall for a few days!

Pumpkin Exploration

We have enjoyed many pumpkin activities as we learned about our five senses.
Our first activity involved using our sense of TOUCH. To make things more tricky, we took away our sense of sight by closing our eyes as we felt a very silly, bumpy pumpkin. The children used many great adjectives to describe how the pumpkin felt to them.

When we opened our eyes, our sense of SIGHT helped us to see the beautiful orange of our pumpkins and notice how tall and how fat our pumpkins were.
We tried a bit of non-standard measuring using connecting cubes to guess how many cubes tall we thought our pumpkin was. This was rather tricky.

We also tried to estimate how fat our pumpkin was by trying to guess which belt would fit around our pumpkin. This was silly!

We used our sense of SMELL as we sliced the top off of one of our little pumpkins. Some of us liked the smell, others thought it was stinky.

Using our sense of TOUCH was really fun as we reached into the pumpkin to pull out the seeds and the slime.  Ooooh, some of us just couldn't bare to touch that icky gushy stuff. We noticed if we squeezed the gush our sense of HEARING was activated. It made a
suction-type of popping sound.

Can't wait to count all those seeds!!
We will use our sense of TASTE on Monday as we roast pumpkin seeds and give them a try.  Bet they will smell yummy too.
We wondered if pumpkins would float like our apples did, sooo...

As long as we are experimenting, let's see what happens when we toss in a few gourds?!?!?
Didn't seem to matter if they had bumps or stems... they ALL floated:)
Thank you, God for giving us wonderful pumpkins to explore, decorate with, and make yummy foods with too!
