Oceans of Fun

The children in pre-k have been engaged in
an inquiry unit on the ocean.
Our children's aquatic museum has been busy everyday.
There are many activities to do!
 Create fish patterns,
color sea animals,
play in a sensory tub filled with sea creatures,
'
Explore shells and sort them by similar type.
and enjoy reading books about the ocean.
The finger gym is loaded with teeny tiny shells to
pick-up and then count and add to our star fish number cards.
One day we did observational seashell drawings using our keen sense of sight and we drew like scientists.
We have lots of fun creating with playdough and shells
making fossil impressions and pretend oceans.
Using storytelling props helps us in becoming
stronger at retelling our read aloud stories.
Making ocean dioramas was lots of fun too!
Hunting for ABC seashells in the sand is super awesome!
The white beach sand felt very different
than the coarse brown sand.
Fishing for ABC's helps us to practice our
letter identification skills.
Practicing printing letters in an ocean-themed writing tray makes it so much more exciting than using regular writing tools.
Amidst all of this fun, we have learned
many facts about the ocean too!

Kindness Rock Drop

Waaaaaaay back in January, we painted some beautiful rocks
and wrote kindness messages on them.
Our intent was to 'hide' them around our school neighborhood so that people would find them and it would help to brighten their day.
Well, the snow came and next the cold temps,
so we had to put our pretty little rocks aside in a basket and keep them for a day like today!!
We had fun taking a walk on this blustery spring afternoon.
The children took turns placing their special rocks
onto the steps and sidewalks around the neighborhood.
We hope that the recipients find joy in their day and enjoy our little rocks as a decoration in their homes or gardens and perhaps wonder WHO the artist was.
Simple acts of kindness make your heart feel good!
Kindness tends to have a ripple effect too:)

Egg-cellent Day!

I asked the kiddos what they thought the incubator was for and they had some fantastic and creative answers: for bees, an ice maker, an oven, and an egg painter, for example. They were all very curious.

We talked about hatching chicks and the special, colorful eggs we had that would grow little chicks inside. Since we couldn't have a mommy hen sit on our eggs in the classroom, the incubator would keep the eggs warm and cozy so they can grow into chicks. We cracked open an egg to see inside before it started growing.

And we drew our observations. We'll be doing several observational drawings over the next few weeks. Around day 12, we'll try to hold a bright light to the eggs to get a peek inside to what's developing.

Scientists at work.

Stay tuned for egg-citing egg updates! First pips should be in 21 days!
