Mardi Gras Fun

Today, the children learned that 'Mardi Gras
means 'Fat Tuesday' in French.
It is the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of the Christian Lenten season leading up to Easter.
During Lent, many Christians fast, and the name Fat Tuesday refers to the last day of eating richer foods before the leaner days of Lent begin.
We enjoyed decorating Mardi Gras masks.
 Who are these masked children?!?
Painting Mardi Gras paintings.
 Having fun with pretend play!
Our day ended with a real Mardi Gras parade.
So fun!!
We also learned that this is the last day we will
sing the Alleluia until Easter.
ALLELUIA!

Kid Kindness Strikes!!

The children in prekindergarten are learning the importance
and value of being kind and how powerful that can be.
We've been busy preparing our official 'Kid Kindness' super hero uniforms for all of our top secret missions.

Every super hero needs a cape, wouldn't you say?!
We finally got to put on our capes
and fly around spreading cheer.
While the rest of the school was at mass, my little super heroes flew through the school (literally) delivering the love bugs we made a couple weeks ago.
 Up the stairs.
 Downstairs...
We hit every door way and office desk in the whole school!
Back up the stairs again... who knew we had so many staircases.
 Kid Kindness Rules!

Back to home base before we get discovered!!
We also left an official calling card just to be sure people would know these love bugs were special... but no one knows
WHO Kid Kindness really is.
(Thank you to my daughter-in-law for creating such a cute little calling card for us!)
Other students and teachers popped in throughout the day asking if we knew anything about the special notes and bugs they found, but we just responded... "whaaaat?" (giggle, giggle)
Kindness is free... give it away everyday!!
Be on the look out for these flying Kindness Super Heroes!
As we approach the season of Lent, this
KINDNESS project is the perfect avenue for teaching young children about the goodness of Jesus.

The Dentist is In!

February is Dental Health month, soooooooo for the
last two weeks in February our focus will be on dental
health and our pretend lab has turned into a dentist office.
Our receptionists have very good manners and utilize their best speaking and listening skills when dealing with patients.
Patients have an authentic purpose for writing
their names when signing in.
The waiting room has lots of good dental health books to help
pass the time while waiting for the dentist.
Once in the dental chair the dental hygienist does a
pre-check for the dentist and also cleans your teeth.
If you have a problem, the dentist listens very carefully.
It's important to keep the tool tray neat and tidy.
Don't worry, we are NOT really putting
the tools in our little mouths.
We are using our imaginations:)
Sometimes x-rays are also needed.
We have a special machine to view the x-rays too!
When the dentist comes in he/she pokes around a bit more to do an official check and hopefully send you on your way.
The dental staff takes LOTS of notes on the patients.
Collaboration is key in this practice.
In between patients, the dentists will work
in the lab which is pretty cool.
To add to the fun of our theme...
we have a dental health tinker tray.
Brushing away letter pairs.
Practicing our flossing techniques.
Working at the finger gym pushing down the alligator's teeth and inserting and pulling out teeth in our little pretend patient.
Counting pretend teeth and identifying numbers.
Practicing brushing skills on real models of teeth.
This is the result of good dental hygiene...
Say cheeeeeeese!
