Bird Nest Inquiry

The full day children have been engaged in a mini unit on birds and the nests they build.
We enjoyed a great story called...
and built our afternoon STREAM Tinker Time around that story.
We explored many real nests and then headed outside to
collect the materials we needed to build our own nests.
Next, we headed indoors and tried our
hand at actually building nests.
It was trickier than we thought.
Birds must be very patient gathering only a
few materials at a time in their beaks.
Some of the finished products...
We even tried to build a big eagle's nest.
It was especially fun to sit inside of it
pretending to be a baby eagle.
Those are two little hungry eaglets.
Some of the children tried to do observational drawings
of birds using some beautiful picture cards.
Of course we always enjoy sensory play and the
bird theme made it extra fun!
Keep an eye out for birds in your yard who may be building nests.
Tweet, tweet!!
