This week, our afternoons were spent
exploring the world of salamanders.
We began by reading a special story called
The Salamander Room.
We learned early on that a salamander is an
amphibian just like a frog.
They look similar to lizards, but have smooth,
moist skin as opposed to dry and scaly.
They need to live in moist or arid conditions.
The children engaged in many activities between our two rooms; painting salamanders, drawing plans for a salamander habitat,
preparing salt dough,
and molding it into a salamander.
We baked it in our cookie oven for an hour,
and painted the salamanders the next day.
We used REALLY cool paints!
They were metallic so our salamanders actually
look like they have wet, moist skin.
Some children chose to draw like scientists
and use their observational skills.
Lastly, we provided many natural materials and the children worked collaboratively to create salamander habitats.
They turned out great!!
