Character Connections

As we learn about the basic story elements,
we are also extending our learning about characters
by trying to make connections with them.
By relating to the characters, they become more real to us.
This is a very high-level task, yet the children are
really becoming deep thinkers.
This is an anchor chart we made after reading the story
Tacky the Penguin.
This story is truly a class favorite because it is so fun to
use different voices for each character as you read.
Tacky is an odd bird, but we could ALL relate to him:)!

We also made a cute little 'Tacky' craft.
Be on the look-out for these silly birds
during your visit to the open house.

Let it Snow...

What a wonderful time we had making the story,
The Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats,
come alive in our classroom.
We acted out the story, re-told the story
using props on the flannel board, and made a
giant mural bringing the story to life in a BIG way.
The main character in the story is Peter, but in our
mural the children became the characters.
We also added a few scrap paper houses, buildings, and trees.
Deciding on placement was done very carefully!
After adding the characters to the mural we mixed up a batch of our secret snow... shaving cream and liquid glue.
Puffy and sticky at the same time.
A sensory joy!

Be sure to stop by to view our mural which is hanging in the hallway between our two classrooms.

Cup of Cocoa?

Our 4K Hot Cocoa Shop has been very busy!
The children continue to add new elements each day.
They are working with concepts small, medium,
and large as customers order their cocoa
and are getting a bit of practice writing numbers too!
Be prepared to be asked...
How many marshmallows would you like?
The kids closed the shop in order to prepare for a big party!
Have you ever seen cuter baristas?
Orders are filled one cup at a time.
The bakers are busy baking cookies using
our chocolatey playdough.
Smells soooooo delicious!
This week the children decided to sell mittens
after being inspired by two fun stories...
The Hat and The Mitten
The perfect opportunity to sneak in a bit of fine motor
Let's hang them on a clothesline?!
Those clothespins can be really tricky!
The best part... these kids know
how to keep their shop 'neat and tidy!'
Why not enjoy a real cup of cocoa as you
watch the snow fall this weekend:)
