Our Lenten Journey Begins

Today we learned about Ash Wednesday.
What a contrast compared to Mardi Gras.
Our day began attending mass and receiving ashes on our forehead.
After a human person dies, the body turns to dust or ash.
The ashes are a symbol of that.
Later in the morning we were able to spend time in
the media center at a retreat.
Many prayerful centers were set-up in that space.
A time for quiet.
A time for thinking about things we can work harder at.
A time to wonder.
The space was magical and covered in twinkle lights.
We almost didn't think we were in the library.
Asking God to help us with difficult things.
Spending time with a good book or Bible.
Making room for God in our lives.
 Wiping away our troubles.
Listening to meditative music while watching beautiful images.
As we left the retreat, we each chose a special rock to
keep as a reminder that God is always with us and
will be our rock whenever we need Him.
Our spiritual lunch was amazing.
Our noisy lunchroom was transformed into a
quiet, peaceful, fancy space...
candles on the tables, lovely music playing.
We were served a bowl of hot rice and water.

Simple, yet sustainable.
We all quietly ate, listened to Mrs. B. read the
Legend of the Three Trees, and sat in awe
as we looked around the room.
This was a special day and we are ready for our
journey becoming closer friends with Jesus.
