Autumn at the Audubon Society

The children on the bus go up and down, up and down, up and down...

Before heading out into the woods, we learned about habitats and things that animals need to survive.
Space, shelter, soil, sun, air, food, and water.
Next, it was time to head outside to see if we could find the habitats we learned about inside. We had to have a meeting first and look at a special BINGO board to see what things we were on the look-out for.

The prairie was beautiful; quiet, peaceful, sunny , and warm.
We found many flowers from last year. We learned that the center of the bloom contains all the new seeds which get scattered and grow new flowers for next year.

We were able to touch a real deer foot. The front feet work more like our arms. They bend like our wrists do and deer walk on their tip-toes.
We were able to touch a piece of summer deer fur and winter deer fur. Ask your child which fur sample was thicker.
Some of the flowers had a really good smell. This one was a type of mint.
The next habitat was the pond. We had to walk down the middle of the boardwalk so we didn't fall in the pond!  Yikes!!

 We were looking for frogs!!
 No luck!
We spied lots of lily pads though!
 We did spy a turtle!
Off we go to the forest!
Who's that in the tree?

Mr. AJ told us that in the fall a leaf shows its true colors.
Look who passed us in the woods!

We found the last habitat... the beach!!

Thank you God for the beauty of autumn, good friends, and sunny fall days!
We spotted these wild turkeys running across Lake Drive while we were on the bus. So funny!!
