The WRITING CENTER is an area where we will practice being authors and illustrators. We are 4, turning 5 and we write in many different ways. All attempts at making marks are cause for celebrations. Please ask your child to 'read' his/her message or tell you about any pictures brought home:)
WORD WORK is a center where the children will learn that letters are necessary to build words. The first words we are building are our names. There are many different types of letters that we will use to make this learning so much fun... magnetic letters, sand letters, sensory bottles and trays, squishy letter bags, etc...
MORNING MESSAGE BOARD is a dry erase board where the children are able to pretend to be the teacher and write a 'morning message' just like we do as a large group each morning. Do you notice the smiley face in the upper left corner? Ask your child WHY we have it there.
The POETRY POCKET CHART is a center where the children will practice 'reading' our poem from the prior week. This poem is memorized, yet when given a magical teacher pointer the children will begin to learn to point to each individual word as they recite the poem, thus learning 1:1 voice to print match which is an early reading behavior.
The BOOK NOOK is a cozy center that the children can visit when they just need to relax a bit. It is a place to interact with and explore the world of books. Opportunities to read to a friend or a snuggly are always available, as well as just reading to one's self.
The RETELLING BOARD is a center where the children will use flannel board character pieces from stories that we have already read as a class and they will practice 'retelling' the story according to their own memory of it or perhaps even be creative and change a familiar story up a bit. This week we are retelling Quick as a Cricket.
The PAINT EASEL is such a fun center. We get to paint side-by-side with a friend. We are exploring colors and are fascinated to use two colors, but observe three colors on our finished masterpieces. Hmmm... how did we do that?! Ask your child about that.
The LIGHT TABLE is so cool. We played with see-thru pattern blocks one day and color paddles the next. It was so fun to layer the colors to make new colors. Today, we rolled our sensory color bottles across the top. They looked so pretty when the light shone through.
Stay-tuned for more learning and fun coming soon!!
