It Only Takes a Tiny Seed...

We are exploring the parts of a flower as we are learning more about nonfiction text features and focusing on diagrams.
There is a nature cutting tray on our science table where the children are engaging with real flowers and cutting them apart and sorting them according to their parts; stem, leaves, and petals.

(If you have any daffodils or tulips or anything else that needs to be cut down from your garden, send them to school for the kids to cut into pieces.)
We read the story by Eric Carle...
So, we decided we wanted to plant our own seeds so we could take care of them and watch them grow.
Now, for some down and dirty fun!!
Time to fill our pots with dirt.

First, we planted some bean seeds.
Then, we planted some cat grass for Mrs. Flynn's cat:)
We thought we should plant some regular grass too, so we can compare how it is different or the same as cat grass. The seeds were very different sizes... cat grass seeds are much larger.
 Last, we planted radishes.
Radish seeds are really tiny!
Check out the GREAT labels on our pots!!
Now we need to care for our plants by watering them, putting them in a sunny window, and being patient. Fingers crossed that they begin to grow before school is over!! Stay-tuned!
