Storytime STREAM

We explored another great story called
Chipmunk Song, by Joanne Ryder
It has beautiful, intricate illustrations by Lynne Cherry depicting an underground tunnel system created by a chipmunk.
We learned that the chipmunks spend the winter deep in their tunnel, only slightly waking to eat a few nuts and then drifting back into a deep slumber until the warmth of spring warms the ground.
Of course, we were all fascinated by the cool tunnel and
wondered if we could build our own tunnel system.
Hmmmmm.... what could we use from our classroom?
After a brief discussion and a few chairs and blankets, THIS is what the kiddos came up with!
The efforts were good and the collaboration amazing,
but... the tunnel kept caving in.
The design needed a few tweeks.
After adjusting the position of the chairs,
the kids might be onto something here.
 YES!!!
It works!!
Here come the cute, little chippys.
Children learn SOOOOOO much from failed attempts.
With a little bit of guidance and many open-ended questions
they can arrive at wonderful solutions.
