Autumn Fun at the Audubon

Rain. Puddles. Mud... what more could a kid ask for???
Despite the down pouring rain, the children had a ball tromping through nature at the Audubon Society today.
Before heading outside, we learned a bit about our 5 senses and how animals use those same senses out in nature.
This is how they hunt for food
and remain safe from predators as well.
We got to pet a real snake.
Some of us were VERY brave.
We also got to touch a box turtle
and watch him use his eyes to hunt for a meal worm.
We enjoyed viewing some of the animals in the lobby of the main building before heading out into the rain!
  Trip trap, trip trap...
Who's that tripping over my bridge?
  Cool!!
We found a hollowed out tree!
 98 steps up!
 98 steps down!
We got to pet a red fox pelt.
We used our sense of touch to feel the softness.
The woods had lots of great things to see, smell, and touch.
We mostly heard the sound of raindrops,
but we heard a few crunching leaves as well.
We definitely felt the raindrops!
Yay!!
Whoo, whoo, whoo is in that tree?
Lots of little mushrooms growing on this decaying tree.
Time for a little rest!

Better hold this tree up from the wind!
We learned how they tap syrup from a sugar maple tree.
After we left the woods we headed to the pond.
It was fun watching the raindrops hit the water.
We even saw a few ducks out swimming in the rain.
Our last stop was the prairie.
It was very quiet in the prairie because of the rain.
It was very muddy too!!
We even spotted a bat house.
Time to go!!
Thank you God for giving us our 5 senses
to enjoy your beautiful world!
