Our first activity involved using our sense of TOUCH. To make things more tricky, we took away our sense of sight by closing our eyes as we felt a very silly, bumpy pumpkin. The children used many great adjectives to describe how the pumpkin felt to them.
When we opened our eyes, our sense of SIGHT helped us to see the beautiful orange of our pumpkins and notice how tall and how fat our pumpkins were.
We tried a bit of non-standard measuring using connecting cubes to guess how many cubes tall we thought our pumpkin was. This was rather tricky.
We also tried to estimate how fat our pumpkin was by trying to guess which belt would fit around our pumpkin. This was silly!
We used our sense of SMELL as we sliced the top off of one of our little pumpkins. Some of us liked the smell, others thought it was stinky.
suction-type of popping sound.
Can't wait to count all those seeds!!
We will use our sense of TASTE on Monday as we roast pumpkin seeds and give them a try. Bet they will smell yummy too.We wondered if pumpkins would float like our apples did, sooo...
As long as we are experimenting, let's see what happens when we toss in a few gourds?!?!?
Didn't seem to matter if they had bumps or stems... they ALL floated:)
Thank you, God for giving us wonderful pumpkins to explore, decorate with, and make yummy foods with too!
