Monday we launched into a 3-week unit exploring
imaginations and learning about visualization.
There couldn't be a better way to begin this unit then
spending a week enjoying Dr. Seuss stories.
The spring board into this unit was enjoying
'Read Across America' day!
We began the day by hearing from a real local author.
He told us how he got the idea for his story
and how he went about publishing it.
His story is based on a true experience
he had with his son.
We learned that small moments in our lives
can lead to the best stories.
His story is called, Frosty's Blessed Life.
When he left, Mrs. Beckmann read the story to us.
She even bought the story for our library.
We enjoyed a few Seuss-inspired activities
when we returned to our classroom.
Cat in the Hat inspired tinker tray.
Seuss-inspired sensory play.
Seuss-inspired sculptures:)
Next, Mrs. Klawans came to read The Cat in the Hat to us while we sipped on a yummy cup of hot chocolate.
What a silly story.
We are learning that Dr. Seuss has a very creative imagination.
In the afternoon, we visited our school library and
learned about the Dewey Decimal System.
Then, we got to go on a scavenger hunt and
fill out a special bingo board.
It was fun returning our books into the secret slot!
We even got a a prize for earning bingo!
On the way back down to our classroom, we stopped into first grade and our first grade buddies read to us.
What a great day!
