Design Challenge

As an extension to one of our favorite stories this week, the children were posed with a challenge...
How could these materials be used to build a boat that
would glide across the table in three puffs?
First, we needed to think of an idea and
make a plan to design the boat.

Next, we needed to begin constructing.

At this point, we had to make a few adjustments even
before testing it to see if it would glide.
After all, the boat needs to be sturdy if it is
going to stay together for the ride.

Then, a few test trials occurred.

We learned a lot about the spot that the puff of air
needed to hit to have the most impact.
Lastly, we took our final products after some minor adjustments and tested them out against one another.
Two of the boats crossed the finished line so we looked more closely to see what they both had in common.

What great little engineers!!
