Animals Preparing for Winter - Investigation & Data Stage... Migrating Geese

Why do animals migrate?

After reading many nonfiction books and watching a few YouTube videos, we learned that animals migrate because they can not find enough food to eat during the cold winter months.

We learned that Caribou, Arctic Terns, Monarchs, Whales, and Geese are some of the animals that migrate.

We added those to our poster.

Many children were excited to share that they had seen geese flying in the sky. We wanted to build on this background knowledge, so we wondered what geese liked to eat and why they couldn't find it in the winter. We did a Google search and found out they like fresh plants.
We used our imaginations and went outside to peck around for food... we didn't find any.

Must be time to migrate south.
First, we need to get into a V-formation.
Fly little birds, fly!
While we were flying through the sky, we spotted several squirrel dreys. It was as if the things we read about in our books came to life.

Oh, to be 4 and 5 again!!
