Each day we come together as a large group at the end of the morning to read The Advent Storybook. It is a beautiful story of a little bears journey to Bethlehem which takes place ONE story at a time. By the journey's end the children who share the stories and their simple morals along with the little bear will understand and celebrate the true spirit of Christmas.
We will also light an Advent candle each Friday in anticipation of the Sunday mass.
In our class, the daily focus is on KINDNESS. We have a little TREE OF KINDNESS in the hallway outside of our classroom door. It is rather bare right now, but... we hope to LIGHT IT UP by doing acts of kindness. The children will earn a bulb for each random act of kindness.
The kind acts need to come unprompted and from the heart. The teachers need to notice these kind acts and 'catch' the kiddos being kind. We are looking for out of the ordinary things, not expected behaviors.
If you would like to promote this kindness challenge in your home, here is a nice calendar of simple ideas to focus on each day as a family.
If you would like a hard copy of this calendar, just let me know:)
Father Peter Patrick stopped for a visit and the children were so proud to show him how our little tree is beginning to 'light up!'
