Ewww... Gross!!

Today, all of our dental health tips came to life as we conducted an experiment. We filled two cups with liquid; one with plain water and the other with Coke. Next, we each made a prediction which beverage would be better for our teeth. The results are a bit hard to see in this picture, however, it was unanimous. ALL the children chose the water:)
We proceeded to lower an egg into each cup. (We also noticed that the eggs floated!) Then we waited.
We learned that the surface of the eggs shell is similar to the chemical composition of the enamel on a tooth.
The results...gasp... ewwwww... GROSS!!
Dark beverages can stain teeth!
Never fear, fluoride toothpaste to the rescue!!
After just a little bit of vigorous brushing, the white of the egg was once again revealed.
The lesson learned... soda should not be your drink of choice.  If you do choose to drink soda (or coffee or tea) brush as soon as you can or at a minimum rinse your teeth with water.
