Urban Ecology Trip

Despite the frigid temperatures and the blustery wind, we had a wonderful time at the Urban Ecology Center this morning.
We found the secret door and got in using the secret password... 'SHELTER.'

We went to one of the indoor classrooms and talked about how animal shelters are important to the animals who live in them. They are built to help keep the animals safe, warm, to nest their offspring, and some even help them capture food.

Each group spent some time in the animal room looking at box turtles, snakes, fish, snapping turtles, etc..

Then, we set out into the woods to find animal shelters. Brrrr.... it was cold, but we found some homes. Take a look!

Now it was our turn to try to build a shelter for an animal that was hiding in Ms. Regina's bag. She had a cardinal, racoon, toad, and badger.
We got right to work... check out some of the homes the kiddos designed for the animals. Great engineers in the making! So fun!!
