Advent... We Wait!

Our classroom tree is bare. The apples have been picked. The last of the leaves have fallen off. It looks sad and cold.
Over the next few weeks, as we learn about the true meaning of Christmas, we will practice the art of 'waiting' during this season of Advent. We hope that our tree begins to shine and twinkle with lights which will slowly be added day-by-day.
The children will have the opportunity to earn 'lights' to hang on our tree when they demonstrate random acts of kindness and/or helpfulness that goes above and beyond routine classroom expectations. We are learning to let the light of Jesus shine through our actions to others.
Check back as the weeks go on to see how bright our tree becomes.
We are also reading a page-a-day in a book called Advent Storybook.
It is about a little bear named Benjamin who is so impatient for Christmas to come. To help the time pass more quickly, his mother tells him a story... broken into 24 stories... all about another little bear and his long arduous journey to Bethlehem. The little bear, led by a glittering star, meets many others on his travels. His adventures, filled with acts of heroism and kindness, and many small miracles, show him the path to baby Jesus. By the end of the journey Benjamin Bear, (and your child), will understand and celebrate the true spirit of Christmas.
So far, the children are intrigued with the daily stories. It is a special way to end each morning together.

(FYI... each Monday morning during Advent, we will attend a school-wide prayer service in the gym. Be sure to arrive on time on Mondays:) )
