We read the story, The Snowy Day, as our kick-off to learning about a couple basic story elements; characters and setting.
Ask your child the definition of both:)
To help the story come alive we recreated our own version
of the setting by designing a snowy day mural.
Next, it was time to make a few trees and buildings to add to our snow hill. Of course we like to 'Go Green' as much as possible, so we used scrap paper to create all the details on our mural.
Our next task was an important one...
placement of all of our creations.
placement of all of our creations.
With so many children working together collaboration
is so important.
We are learning that we all don't think a like... and that is ok.
It's starting to come alive now!
The last item to add to the setting were the characters...
US, of course!
We drew ourselves wearing snow suits so we
could be part of the outdoor setting.
Lastly, it was time to give our snow a bit of depth...
we made our own puffy paint:)
Ask your child how we did that.
Snow on the ground.
Snow in the sky.
Snow on the rooftops.
Our finished version of The Snowy Day!
Be sure to check it out when you visit our Open House
this Sunday, January 28th.
