Seeing winter through the eyes of little children is MAGICAL!
Although we only had three short days of school this week, we are jumping in feet first.
On Wednesday we very quickly got busy setting up our
Hot Cocoa stand in our pretend lab.
It's the perfect setting after skating at the ice rink.
We have everything we need to make a great cup of cocoa (or hot tea). We also have the opportunity to work on size concepts as our customers order small, medium, or large cocoas.
In the event our mittens are snow-covered and wet, we can hang them to dry them on our clothesline. A great opportunity for matching patterns that look the same and finding a 'pair.'
Pinching the clothespins helps our little fingers develop
fine motor control and strength.
If you recognize any of the mittens, some of them have been
lost this week. Let us know!
Our cashiers will take your order.
And our hot cocoa baristas will prepare your order to perfection!
This is the marshmallow expert.
He will hand pick just the right number of marshmallows
to fulfill your order.
This little worker will stir the cream until it is just right!!
The children are learning that hard work and great customer service will earn them some tips in their tip jar... and this month
we are using real coins.
Too fun!!
Another sign that winter is here is that we are reading LOTS of fiction and nonfiction books about snow, snowflakes,
and of course snowmen!
This story inspired us to paint our own snow people.
We LOVED the artwork too!
It gave us lots of good ideas for snow people accessories!
This story inspired an afternoon of folding and snipping and making our own snowflakes. WOW! This was so fun and something we will continue next week.
Snip...
Snip...
Snip...
SNOWflakes:)
Whoa!
Who is this masked snow lady?!?
We couldn't pass by an opportunity to let our BIG buddies in on the fun. We have been learning what happens when something frozen is brought into a warm environment, soooo we wanted to
show our big buddies what we learned.
They helped us make a melting snowman!!
So silly!
Taaaa-daaaaaaaa!
Making our own snowflake creations with loose parts is always fascinating and something we will continue next week.
So pretty and symmetrical too!
What would life in the Literacy Lab be without digging for ABC's in a mountain of fluffy snow?!?
Literacy learning has never been so fun!
Writing in a snow tray helps us practice letter writing
in a fun, sensory-filled way too.
Stay-tuned for more learning and fun next week:)
