Handwriting Masters

The children have gotten through instruction for all capital letters.
The remaining part of the school year will be spent
perfecting the production of each letter.
The children are very busy each week engaging in handwriting workshop rotations. These workshops allow them to practice writing and building letters in a variety of ways.
Each week the workshops/tools change.
This workshop is called 'Wet, Dry, Try.'
The children print the letter with a tiny wet sponge which
promotes the pincer grasp when they hold it between
their fingers and when they squeeze the water
out of the sponge, it strengthens their little fingers .
Then the letter is traced with the pointer finger
until it disappears like magic.
So cool!!
The children are practicing printing letters on a mini
white-board at the next workshop.
They are challenging each other to print specific letters which is training their brains to visualize each letter without a printed model.
It also helps them to practice being a peer mentor to a friend:)
Here the children are utilizing the ABC wall to
decide which letters to print.
This time the writing tool is colored chalk.
The formation of the letters gets better with each passing week... pointier points, loops are disappearing in letters like B, diagonal lines are looking more diagonal rather than straight.
Offer writing opportunities daily at home too:)
This week we also tried talking about our letters.
The children did a wonderful job and this is something that
we will continue to do so everyone can have a turn and
become more proficient using appropriate terminology.
Please check back to see the playlist grow.
