Filling our Toolbox

The children in 4K will be learning many different problem-solving strategies during the month of September to help them learn to navigate any difficulties they may encounter. 
We will always post new strategies so you can assist 
your child in implementing them at home as well.

Today we learned our FIRST strategy. 

It is called our STOP tool.

The children have been taught to place their hand, palm facing outward, next to their face and in a serious tone say: 

"PLEASE STOP!"

We will provide many opportunities for the 

children to practice by  role-playing. 

This is not only fun, but also very silly which actually helps the children to remember how to use the strategy.

We will assist the children in implementing the strategy in authentic situations and the ultimate goal is for the children to rely on these strategies in times of need and to regulate their own behavior.

As the children become more proficient, we will also help 

them to verbally identify the behavior which 

they want their friend to STOP doing.
